Vol.13. No.1 - 25/1/2013

Welcome to 2013…...a year that promises to be a big one for MTA (NT). I trust that you all had a great Christmas and New Year period and are looking forward to a prosperous and rewarding 2013.

A lot of time has been put in by the Secretariat over the Christmas/New Year period planning for 2013 and I’m very confident that the range and scope of events, activities and meetings scheduled for 2013 will serve all sectors of the industry very well.

I am particularly excited by a number of new initiatives being planned for this year on the back of some new activities we introduced in 2012. As you may recall we started the annual Christmas Charity Challenge in 2012 which in its first year was very well attended and raised $180 for charity. Out of this concept the Board has decided to adopt a charity so that money raised at future fund raising events like this can go to a good cause. A survey form will come to you shortly with a list of

charities short-listed by the Board for MTA (NT) for you, the members, to make your choice of which charity to adopt.

Other new initiatives this year will be introduction of the MTA (NT) ‘Apprentice of the Year’ awards and the MTA (NT) Golf Day which will be held on Friday 17 May (mark this date in your calendar now).

In addition to the over 25 different sector meetings planned for the year your association will be working hard for you on a number of ongoing issues and projects such as:

  • Equity and access to repair information for the independent repair sector
  • Support for National Theft Reduction Council aims to reduce profit-motivated theft including industry licensing in the repair sector
  • Online access for LMVD’s
  • Continued consultation with NT Fleet
  • Working with government to support consumer protection initiatives

Members of your Board will next Wednesday (30 Jan) be meeting with the new Business Minister, Peter Chandler and I would love to hear about any issues you may want us to raise on your behalf.

I look forward to catching up with a number of you during the year and I’m always contactable through the Secretariat to discuss any issue you may have.

Guy Dawson

President MTA (NT)
